Summary and Nature of the Work

  • The incumbent of this position performs and manages the development and engineering phases of projects for the Performance Solutions group.  The purpose of the designs are to secure construction contracts in direct negotiation, Performance Contracting, Construction Manager at Risk and Design/Build procurement methods. 
  • Additionally, the individual maintains constructive relationships and supportive communications with clients, owners, vendors, subcontractors, inspectors, community officials, P1 Service staff, and his/her immediate supervisor.
  • Based on existing documentation, site visits, and owner discussions, this individual possesses the capability and experience to develop design solutions for a wide range of system deficiencies.  These owner deficiencies range from simple commercial rooftop unit capacity issues to hospital operating room temp/humidity issues to malfunctioning manufacturing processes.  The design solutions may require options due to cost, efficiency, lead time, etc. 
  • This position develops designs from concept thru final construction documents.  The documents are used by the individual, Account Executive or Project Manager to develop detailed estimates and cost models.
  • This position will support all the P1 Services offices, day trips with one night stay over may be required.  

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Sales Support: 
    1. Support prospect and customer relations throughout the sales cycle and sustains a supportive working relationship with customers to include monitoring their satisfaction with
    2. Works with the Account Executives, Project Development Manager, and/or Performance Solutions VP to identify and qualify projects.
    3. Develops and sustains a continuous supporting prospecting process to identify and contact qualified leads.
  2. Engineering Design - MEP
    1. Engineering disciplines include:
      1. HVAC
      2. Building Automation
      3. Piping Systems
      4. Plumbing
      5. Electrical Power and Low Voltage
  3. Estimate Development
    1. Provide 30/60/90% estimates for projects based on the Scope of Work Developed by the team
  4. Proposal Development
    1. Provide detailed proposals as a communication tool to the customer in an effort to secure Projects
  5. Leadership
    1. Lives the P1 Service operating principles and leads in accordance with the company’s leadership model.
    2. Defines training requirements and coordinates for training interventions that promotes the professional growth of all assigned associates.
    3. Coaches and mentors development team members and promotes their professional growth by providing clear expectations; timely, meaningful feedback.  

Qualifications

  • Education Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Registration:  Professional Engineer registration preferred  
  • Experience:  Must have a minimum of 5 years of project design and development experience. 10+ years of project design and development experience preferred.

    • Computer Skills:  The individual must be proficient in using email, database, internet, spreadsheet, and word processing applications: specifically, Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Windows).

    • Interpersonal Skills - focuses on solving conflict, not blaming; maintains confidentiality; listens to others without interrupting; keeps emotions under control; remains open to others' ideas and tries new things.
    • Language Skills: 
      • Reading and Comprehension: The individual must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; to write reports, instructions to employees, and basic business correspondence; and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, internal customers, and vendors.
      • Oral Communication - speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings.
      • Written communication - writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; able to read and interpret written information.
    • Mathematical Skills:  The individual must be able to use general business and engineering mathematics skills as well as to generate financial proformas for financing self- funding projects.
    • Planning/Organizing - prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently.
    • Problem Solving - identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.
    • Reasoning Ability:  The individual must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, and he/she must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Technical Skills - assesses own strengths and weaknesses; pursues training and development opportunities; strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; shares expertise with others.
